Day 97 – Spaghetti Dinner

Pennsylvania has a reputation among hikers for being rocky, the kind of rocks that will wreck an ankle. So far, it hasn’t lived up to the reputation – I’m sure I’ll find the rocks soon enough. It’s mostly been flat and I made decent time over the first 11 miles with my hiking buddy of the day – Moca Joe. The rest of the day brought on a few climbs, but nothing crazy.

It’s still at 100% humidity and everything is drenched in sweat. We were descending in to Duncannon, nearly off the trail for the day when the skies opened up and it poured on us.

Moca Joe and I hit 7-11 for a quick re-supply and then set off to find dinner. The plan was to grab some sandwiches from Subway and then head out of town to camp for free. We stopped by the historic Doyle hotel just because we were nearby and the bartender told us about a local church putting on a free hiker dinner – so we set out again.

The church had a great spaghetti dinner, better yet we learned about yet another church that puts up hikers in their basement for free. They even provide a shower. We were able to get cleaned up from the sweaty day and the rainy downpour and it was a decent place to spend the night.

Day 97 Mileage: 25.7 mi [Boiling Springs -> Duncannon PA]
Total Mileage: 1157.9 mi
