Finishing the Pushrods: 7.5 hrs

July 13, 20

The correct rod end for the elevator push rod arrived in the mail so that project can finally be finished. I used the same technique here as I did for the aileron pushrods. Measure the eye to eye distance, drill those holes in the table and then install the threaded inserts of the rod ends into those holes to hold the tube up to mark it for final cutting. Its just not worth the time to order new pieces in case the drawing is wrong. After I built up the elevator tube, I took a paintbrush and some primer and got all the pushrod tubes (elevator and aileron) primed inside and out.

While those dried, I moved on to fabricating the submarine strap kit for the seatbelts. These were pretty straight-forward to build, but at this point I have another use for a right angle drill in order to get the holes right. I already have one on order, but it hasn’t arrived yet. I didn’t completely finish the belt anchors, but I had all the holes drilled in both mounts.

I was able to install the elevator pushrods before the end of the day. It’s good progress to see them in the plane and a good time to call it a night.
