Gear Review – 2019 Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike

I’ve done a quick Gear Review video of all of the gear I’m taking on my Appalachian Trail thru-hike attempt. The whole pack is 38 lb with a base weight of 17 lb, take a look at my LighterPack for a more detailed account of the gear weights.

I’m eager to shed the winter clothes and take advantage of dropping an extra 6 lb when the weather warms up, but to start out I’d rather be comfortable than cold. I’ve also made some allowances for heavier gear, specifically my sleeping pad, in order to have some creature comforts in camp. Having a light pack is important, but I want to be comfortable enough to enjoy the experience as well.

Let me know if you have questions, I’m happy to go into more detail about any of my gear and give you my thoughts on how I selected what should and should not be part of my pack.

Cheers,
Paul
