Mount Left Aileron and Flap: 6.5 hrs

June 1, 2020

No photos today because it went a lot like yesterday. The bell crank on this side was smooth from the start, so that was a bonus. That counted as the last of the work that we could do on the wing for now so we moved on to the fuselage.

The quick build fuselage comes with a lot “temporary” pop-rivets. These are not mentioned in the plans anywhere we can find so far but our assumption is that these are meant to be drilled out. Keep an eye out when match-drilling pieces to the fuselage because there may be a pop-rivet there that needs to come out first. The first un-complete step in the fuselage was to put the firewall recess in place match-drill the holes to final size. This is where we discovered the first “temp” pop-rivet, luckily everything lined up well and it came out cleanly but it could’ve been a mess. Once drilled, the plans called for it to be set aside.

We also took the wood shipping blocks out from the main spar holes and unscrewed all the floors and pulled them out. This will make it easier to see what was and wasn’t done in the QB kit. The plans are sneaky, there will be whole sections that are completed except for one sentence in the middle and the only way to tell is to strip everything apart as much as possible.

Cheers,
-Kacy
