Throttle Quadrants: 8.0 hrs

September 5-6, 2020

First off, I want to thank Blake at Flyboy Accessories and DJM throttle quadrants for helping me out with a custom set of quadrants for this build. We happened to catch DJM right as he was sending a batch of throttle / prop quadrants to the silk screener. He was nice enough to add a mirror imaged quadrant for the right side as well.

We started by positioning the quadrants where we thought they would feel natural, which ended up being level with the armrest and centered in the side spar cover panels.

The quadrants had an extra spacer that we didn’t need, so we ended up cutting off down the stand-offs and removing the spacer to gain a little bit of room back. We replaced the large center aluminum spacer with a 960 washer. You can reuse the lower mounts and drill through the panel cover directly. For up top, we drilled 2 additional holes in the steel approximately even with the 2 lower mounting holes. The bottoms are #8 screws, the tops are #6. It seems plenty strong and has zero play in it.

Overall, very happy with how this came out. We’re planning on running dual cables all the way to the actuators and will sync them up there. We had a crazy idea for some bell cranks and cables inside the cockpit, but it just wouldn’t fit and added a ton of complexity to the system. For the passenger side, we removed the friction lock and just replaced it with locktite and a double nut setup so it couldn’t adjust itself in flight. Only the left seat pilot will be able to adjust the friction settings.
