Left Flap Rigging: 5.0 hrs

August 12, 2020

Installed the left flap today and did the fuselage cutout for the flap push rod. I started by drilling a pilot hole through the side skin and opened it up to fit the small dremel sanding disk. I also drilled a hole down through the floor that would allow the dremel to fit through as well. This is a scary, but overall simple task of just sanding a little, hooking the flap actuator rod up to the weldment inside the fuselage and then hand raising/lowering the flap to see where it hits. I took this first one really slow and I think the hole came out looking pretty good. You end up completely sanding out two of the rivets in the floor of the fuselage, so don’t be too scared about that. After everything was said and done, we hooked up the electric motor and ran it through full motion to check the range of motion and to set the push rod length so that there was a little bit of pre-load of the flap to the bottom skin of the fuselage. Everything turned out ok and with the flap fully retracted against the lower skin, the flap and aileron lined up perfectly in the faired position.
